Remembering William Martens

William Martens
Born sleeping on October 19, 2013
Son of Ted & Jen Martens
Brother to Hannah & Hope

In March 2013 we found out we were expecting our 2nd child and soon learned we were having a boy.  We were thrilled that we would have one of each gender to compete our little family.  Our pregnancy was picture perfect until 1 ½ months before our son’s due date.  I started to have pelvic pains but nothing out of the ordinary, according to our OB. We were told women carrying low were bound to have pain toward the end.  So we continued on until exactly one month before my scheduled c-section.  I woke up with the most severe pain I have ever experienced.  Once I saw blood, we called an Ambulance and learned, after the doctor arrived at the hospital, that there was no heartbeat.  In surgery, it was discovered that I had a complete uterine rupture at the incision site of my previous c-section.  Our son, William, was born sleeping on October 19, 2013.  He was perfect and beautiful.  William was showered with an amount of love to last a full lifetime during the 9 hours we were able to spend with him.  He was held the entire time and was surrounded by family.  We shared stories with him, kissed him, took lots of pictures, and told him how much we love and will miss him.  We feel so blessed to call sweet William our son and we know that he is with us every day, just in a different way. Although we held him in our arms for just a little while, we will hold him our hearts forever.

An angel wrote in the Book of Life
Our baby’s date of birth
Then whispered as she closed the book,
“Too beautiful for Earth.”
