The John D. Gomke Charity, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was created in John Donald Gomke’s honor by John’s parents Steve and Jessica Gomke after John became an angel on January 6, 2010 at only 33-days-old.
Our mission is to “help other families prevent and cope with infant and young child loss, one baby step at a time.”
Where John’s Charity money goes
During the last 7 years that John’s Charity has been established, here are a few things we have been able to do with the funds are:
• We have put 25 Defibrillators (AEDs) into 9 area school districts. This includes having one in each building and at least one or two to travel with and be on the sidelines at sporting events.
Including: Adel-De Soto-Minburn, Nodaway Valley, Guthrie Center, Panorama, Van Meter, Winterset, Dallas Center-Grimes, Woodward-Granger, West Central Valley.
• We continue the upkeep of replacement pads and batteries every two years for the infant pads and every five years for the adult pads. If a set of pads has been opened and used we will replace them also.
• We have provided infant and small child CPR and First Aid training to over 100 people on a Free Will Donation Basis from a Certified American Heart Association Trainer.
• We have provided keepsakes to over 150 families going through a loss. Including, but not limited to, hand and foot print molds and ink prints.
• We honor Angel Babies at our events, name a Star after each of them and present it to the family. We will continue to remember each of these Angels in years to come.
• We adopt families to help them get through their first Holiday Season without their Angel each year.

How We Raise Money:
John D Gomke Charity Classic Golf Tournament :
• Held the second Saturday in June each year.
• 4-man best shot tournament, tee times at 7:00am and 1:30pm with lunch provided in between.
• Includes contests and prizes.
John’s Baby Steps 5K Run/Walk:
• Held the first Saturday in October each year.
• 5K race and 1 Mile Memory Walk routes.
• Begins with Angel Baby Star presentation and balloon release and ends with Kids Fun Run at Kinnick-Feller Park in Adel.
